Separate use and production
High oil consumption does not imply high domestic production.
Energy & Climate
Review oil consumption and energy context by country.
Oil data structure
Read oil consumption TWh, per-capita oil use, oil share of primary energy, production, and estimated net imports/exports separately.
Oil consumption shows oil energy used inside a country, while production shows domestic production flow. Trade, inventories, and refining structure mean the two values do not have to match.
Per-capita oil use adjusts for population, while oil share of primary energy helps read dependence within the national energy structure.
Estimated net imports/exports are energy-balance estimates from consumption minus production. They are not official crude or refined-product trade statistics.
High oil consumption does not imply high domestic production.
Oil share is closer to dependence context than an absolute volume ranking.
Use consumption-minus-production as a rough reference, not official trade volume.
This standalone country dataset should be kept separate from official oil trade statistics.
